DESCRIPTION:Albuquerque\, NM Sept. 2025 \nHosted by Region XI – New Mexico group \nInstructor:  STEPHEN L. THOMAS\, CBO \nColorado Regional Manager and Education Director for Shums Coda Associates. \nMr. Thomas has over forty-five years’ experience in working with building codes including plan reviews\, inspections and administration. His firm provides building code consulting services for governmental agencies and architectural firms\, as well as educational seminars on building codes across the country.  Working for a building code-consulting firm since 1999\, he has served as the contract Building Official for different local jurisdictions in Colorado.  Mr. Thomas has served on several ICBO and ICC committees including serving as a member and then Chairman of the ICC Means of Egress Code Development Committee. He was named an honorary member of ICC in 2021. He is also the author of the book\, Building Code Basics\, based on the 2009 & 2012 IBC and Building Code Essentials based on 2015\, 2018\, 2021\, & 2024 IBC\, all available from ICC. He and his previous firm\, Colorado Code Consulting\, were awarded the Educator of the Year Award by the ICC in 2018. He has presented building code classes for the last 35 years and provides an interesting and engaging look at building codes. \n  \nMonday September 15 – 2024 – IBC updates  \n2021-2024 IBC Update \nReviews the changes from the 2021 edition to the 2024 edition of the International Building Code. The background behind many of the changes will be discussed to provide the participants with an understanding of the intent of the changes and how to apply it to their everyday work. Subjects covered in the class will include the code change process\, mixed occupancies\, atriums\, ESS\, adult changing stations and much more. \n  \nTuesday September 16 – 2024 IRC updates  \n2021-2024 IRC Update \nReview the change from the 2021 edition to the 2024 edition of the International Residential Code. This class will look at the changes to Chapters 1-10. The background behind many of the changes will be discussed to provide the participants with an understanding of the intent of the changes and how to apply it to their everyday work. Discussion covered in this class will also include the code change process\, alternate materials\, ASCE Hazard Tool\, sleeping lofts\, and much more.  \n  \nTuesday September 16 -Annual Business meeting to follow the training section.\n \nWednesday September 17  – Alarm Systems \nTami Holley is a renowned expert in fire alarm and other life safety systems with a focus on to health care projects and schools.  Tami is a registered PE in multiple states and NICET IV in fire alarm.  She leads a team of six extraordinary fire protection engineers at TLH Fire and is blessed to have recently added Pat Conroy to our staff. Patrick Conroy has decades of experience in health care construction and as a Code Official.
